Informatics is a newly formed team within Landcare Research bringing together individuals with cross-disciplinary skills that frequently combine knowledge of Informatics together with more traditional science disciplines.
Our work covers a spectrum of activities:
- New tools, systems, services and standards for delivering information to end-users, environmental scientists and the informatics research community
- Collaborative research with other science teams within Landcare Research, and other groups both nationally and internationally
- Design, development, support and maintenance of ‘backbone’ science information systems and services
- Consultancy and advisory services for information management and biometrics
The Informatics team currently has 28 staff based across New Zealand. We have specific expertise in the areas of remote sensing, GIS, database application development, geospatial modelling, spatial data infrastructures, biodiversity informatics and biometrics.
Come and work for us
We are always on the lookout for people with interesting skills that can complement our team and organisation as we undertake a wide range of diverse projects. We work with mixed environments and technologies – including MS.Net and Java/OSS, GRID enabled high performance clusters connected by the national KAREN Gbit network, distributed biodiversity data systems, geospatial data and image processing, federated security implementations, decision support and workflow systems – and have a growing interest in mobility and sensor networks. If you have programming skills combined with project management and/or strong math and algorithm programming or analysis, and design and web skills, or a related computer or information science background, we look forward to hearing from you.
